Winter is associated with Holiday Season, fun family days, skiing and enjoying crisp sound of your steps as you explore outdoors. These enjoyments though do not come alone – our skin must re-adjust dramatically to compensate the impact of negative temperatures. Here are 5 simple steps to getting great holiday-ready radiant skin despite the onset of negative temperatures.1. Avoid alcohol based toners, use hydrolats and gentle cleansers instead.
Switch to a gentle non-toxic cleanser that won't over-dry your skin. You may choose cleansing milk or vegan beauty bar that will form a gentle mild foam to cleanse your face without drying it out. Instead of an alcohol-based toner that may work fine for you in summer time, switch to hydrolats (flower waters) or other natural toner without alcohol.2. Drop aggressive peels, and go for gentle, almost massaging exfoliation.
You do need to get rid of dead cells in winter time, so exfoliation is still on the list of your weekly skincare routine. It leaves your pores clean, open and prepared to take in extra moisture after.
However, it is better to stay away from harsh peels and aggressive facial scrubs (with sharper particles). It will damage your skin and make it more prompt to elements. So, choose gentle exfoliator mask that rather massages your skin rather than scabbing off the top layer. Ideally, it should be containing some moisturizing components. Check out ZAYA Detox powder mask for dry skin as a good example of winter detoxifying and exfoliating treatment.3. Pick a weather appropriate moisturizer and don’t skip it.
Always follow up with deep intense moisturizer after the detox treatment and exfoliation to reintroduce moisture and nutrients to your skin. Winter is not an exception and it brings in more rules when it comes to choosing the right moisturizing product. Find a moisturizer that's oil-based, rather than water-based. Good oil will bring into your skin a cocktail of natural moisturizing agents, vitamin and essential fatty acids that will make your skin radiant and “alive” again. Facial oils are great for winter season, but it is important though that you choose your oils with care, because not all oils are lightweight and delicate enough to go onto your skin without creating troubles. Camelia, Evening Primrose oil, Pomegranate and Jojoba oils are perfect face care oil companions. Stay away from sheabutter and coconut oil for your daily facial care - they can clog facial pores and form greasy film on top of your skin that would not absorb.4. Your hands need special attention
Did you know that the skin on your hands was thinner than on most parts of the body and had fewer oil glands? On top of that they get exposed to the elements quite often. Gloves are not only stylish accessory, but a warm cozy protector for your hands in winter time. Do not forget to put them on when you are heading out. And do not forget to share some love with your hard-working hands by applying a good oil-based moisturizer.5. Avoid washing your hands with hot water, and soaking in hot showers and baths
It may feel so relaxing to gradually increase the water temperature as you are taking a shower after the long winter walk or just soak in the hot baths. But bear in mind that this will further inflame and disturb your skin and more importantly it will absorb moisture from your skin even more!
Try to take relatively short, lukewarm baths or showers.By the way, your skin will be thankful if you add finely ground oats (or oat flour) to you bath. Follow by the body oil application right after to avoid feeling dry and itchy.
